The departing Representative of Children and Youth for B.C. is hoping there isn't a long gap between her and a successor now that she's stepping down.
Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond is stepping down from the job after 10 years advocating for vulnerable young people in the province.
Speaking on C-FAX,Turpel-Lafond says that in her experience of over a decade on the job, there were times she had between 50 and 200 cases at a time.
“A call might be needed to the minister or the deputy or to a hospital director so I am very acutely aware of how important and I encourage legislators and others to work diligently to get that person and not to have a long gap."
Turpel-Lafond says she would have liked to have seen a successor identified so there could have been a transition period but that didn't happen.
“There may be a gap with an acting type of person and I hope that gap isn’t a long one because I know there are a lot of files that need that higher level leadership focus."
With the fall sitting of the Legislature cancelled, she doesn't expect there to a permanent replacement until 2017.
