The Capital Regional District is celebrating completion of Phases 1 and 2 of the E&N Rail Trail-Humpback Connector.
It's a bike and pedestrian trail being constructed largely within the rail corridor, and being being built in phases over several years. Once complete it will be 17 kilometres in length, and links Langford, View Royal, Esquimalt Nation, Songhees Nation, Township of Esquimalt and City of Victoria.
To date, 12 km of the trail is complete and open for public use, expanding the CRD's regional trail network to nearly 100 km.
Board Chair Colin Plant says the board recognizes and appreciates the generous support of many funders and partners who are instrumental to progress.
The CRD received $20 million in grants to develop the increasingly popular bike and pedestrian trail -- including the federal government ($16 million); BC government ($2.7 million plus $1 million for Phase 3); Western Economic Diversification Canada ($1 million); BC Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing ($275,000).
