The Canadian Premier League has gotten a huge investment from a sports broadcasting company in Spain.
Media Pro, a sports broadcasting and streaming company from Spain, has invested $200-million in the CPL, to get the rights to broadcast the games in Europe
Langford is home to the newest CPL team, Pacific FC, and Mayor Stew Young is very excited by the investment.
"This is the biggest soccer media company in the world. They do 70% I guess of all the sports in Spain. So this is a really big company, this is a really big deal for Canada, because we should have had a national team playing soccer here for the last 20 years."
He adds that the new team and the news of the sponsor will be great for the community.
"It's going to be great for Langford, great for soccer, and great for the kids of our community. Because they will be able to look up to being able to play professional soccer in your own home town. And with great sponsors like this, you know it just helps other sponsors come forward into the league."
Young does add that West Hills Stadium is currently not 100% complete, they are still waiting for some pre-fabricated stands that are being built in Italy, and some other improvements still need to be done. However, he says they will make sure that the stadium is ready to go for the first game of the season.
Pacific FC's first game was also announced, and they will host the first game of the CPL season. They will open their inaugural season against the Halifax Wanderers FC on April 28th at West Hills Stadium.
