Today while speaking with Mark Brennae, Saanich city councellor Fred Haynes made a special annoucement that he was putting his hat in the ring for mayor. He said that people were coming to him in the thousands asking him to run and bring change. Haynes did say that there was a lot of positive that Mayor Ritchard Atwell had accomplished, solving the situation of the Mt. Doug cattle feed lot, detached housing and small single lot family homes. But he would not go into detail about how he would do things differently, only saying that now was not the time.
Fred started his career as a teacher in England, came to Halifax and Toronto to do his PHD in Medical research. After finishing at St. Michaels Hospital doing medical researching he moved to Japan for several years to follow his dream of persuing martial arts where, he got his 8th degree of black belt. He pointed out that this has helped him out greatly when it came to patients in council meetings.
When Mark asked him what the top 5 on his agenda was, he said these were the issues that the people of Saanich had brought to him.
1) Amalgamation
2) Police Regionalization
3) Transit - Regional
4) EDPA - Do We Rebuild?
5) South Island Prosperity Project, Saanich Support - We need to be able to house people who come to work here
