Remediation work at the site of the former "tent city" has now cost in the neighbourhood of $350,000.
In an email to C-FAX, the province says the soil remediation on the grounds of the Victoria courthouse is expected to last several more weeks.
It was revealed earlier this month that testing of the soil determined the presence of contaminants, including lead, gasoline, diesel and trace amounts of methamphetamines after the homeless camp was taken down.
The province now says about 78-80 dump truck loads of contaminated soil will have to be trucked out from the site.
Meanwhile, the design plan and overall budget for the playground is being finalized with completion expected in the spring.
