Construction on Victoria's new mega-yacht marina will soon resume after the arrival of a massive drill on a float.
Victoria International Marina is a $24-million dollar project that will see 28 slips created in Victoria Harbour for luxury vessels over 65-feet long.
Construction started last month, but Craig Norris, CEO of Community Marine Concepts -- the group behind the project -- says their contractor quickly hit a snag.
"We've got a bigger drill in now that drills our piles twice as fast, but with five-times as much power, which was important because the large boulders along the shore there extend quite deep and wide. And they have large air gaps between them, which puts a lot of torque on the drill, so they had to upgrade the drill a little bit once they found out exactly what was under there."
Norris says they fell three weeks behind schedule waiting for the new drill, but adds its power should allow them to make up that time.
Construction will resume this week or next. The marina is expected to open by April of next year.
