The city of Victoria could be moving to restrict marijuana dispensaries to sell only to people who are 25 and older.
The discussion came up at a council meeting on Thursday night when council was discussing a recent report of how regulation of pot shops is proceeding.
Councilor Geoff Young speaking on C-FAX 1070 says they have heard from a number of medical experts on the issue.
“We have heard the idea that young brains are more susceptible to the impacts of cannabis and the mayor picked up on that and suggested that is an additional regulation that we might want to consider.”
Young says it's clear the federal government is struggling with coming out with regulations with a possible delay in announcements and Victoria is having similar difficulties.
“This idea that we want to further regulate is going to get us into this issue of medical use and recreational use.”
The current age restriction for buyers is 19.
