The Victoria Natural History Society and Rocky Point Bird Observatory are partnering in offering a special Christmas Bird Count for Kids at Beckwith Park in Saanich, on December 15, from 1 til 3 pm..
The family event is being held in conjuction with the official Victoria Christmas Bird Count next Saturday.
Organizer Ann Nightingale says about 250 field counters are expected to be scouring roads, beaches and trails around the city, tallying thousands of birds.
"Victoria has one of the largest counts by field participation in North America," Nightingale said. "Last year, only Oakland, California, had more people out checking the nooks and crannies for birds."
The Victoria count also had the highest number of species -144 in Canada last year.
