An investigative body looking into a collision that left a West Shore mountie dead has filed its report with Crown Counsel for consideration of charges against an RCMP officer.
Cst. Sarah Beckett was killed last April when her police cruiser was hit by another vehicle at a Langford intersection. Kenneth Jacob Fenton now faces charges that include impaired driving causing death.
The Independent Investigations Office's mandate is to investigate police-related incidents of death or serious harm to see if an officer has committed an offence. The IIO confirms the focus of its' investigation was an RCMP officer who tried to stop a civilian vehicle prior to that vehicle colliding with Cst. Beckett's cruiser.
The IIO doesn't reveal what's contained within the report that has now been submitted to Crown Counsel, and reminds that its' threshold for referral to crown is lower than that of other law agencies in the province.
