The City of Colwood is scheduling a censure hearing for longtime councillor Cynthia Day.
A censure hearing is used to send a strong message of disapproval, and is used as a formal way to reprimand members for violations of law or city policy.
The hearing comes after Day tried to block city employees who were trying to complete work on public land outside her Colwood home on Charnley Place Dec. 5th.
The councillor was trying to proect a retaining wall that had been built with a permit that had since expired, and was protecting trees she planted nearby -- also on public land.
Day was arrested for mischief but later released without charges after promising not to interfere further.
Colwood's Mayor Rob Martin says their code of ethics clearly states no one should interfere the work of city staff .
A censure hearing does not result in a fine or dismissal -- but can also result in limitation of the council member’s opportunities to represent the municipality, and could limit her appointments to committees.
The hearing, being arranged for early March, will be open to the public.
