The case against Andrew Berry, an Oak Bay man charged in the deaths of his 2 young daughters, will proceed straight to trial by direct indictment.
That means the premininary hearing stage, which determines if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial, is being bypassed.
Crown Council Patrick Wier says both sides agree it's in everyone's interest to expedite the matter.
Berry, 44, is facing 2 counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of 6-year-old Chloe and 4-year-old Aubrey Berry. Their bodies were found in Berry's apartment on Christmas Day after their mother called police to report her ex-husband had not returned the girls as scheduled.
No cause of death has been made public yet. Berry was arrested after being released from hospital, where he was treated for self-inflicted injuries. He has not yet entered a plea.
A new court date has been set for April 11th, when a Trial Management Judge will be appointed. A Trial Management judge helps oversee how the trial should proceed.
As in past court appearances, Berry appeared by video link.
