Our Place and BC Housing will be hosting a neighbourhood meeting November 8th to discuss using the Boys and Girls Club in the 12-hundred block Yates as transitional housing.
Mayor Lisa Helps says last year "My Place" ran the city-owned site successfully, and the plan is to do it again for the winter:
"This will take 40 people who are currently living on the streets inside. That will be their home for the winter. And what we saw last year was BC Housing and Our Place did a great job successfully transitioning people from the gym floor into more permanent housing across the region."
The community meeting is set for November 8th at 6:30 at Central Middle School.
Helps says if all goes well at the community meeting, council will then consider leasing the building to BC Housing for a period of up to 6 months.
Helps says the School District has indicated they are not opposed to to plan.
