Nanaimo RCMP is looking for whoever intentionally set fire to an artificial turf playing field -- causing $40,000 dollars in damage
Nanaimo Fire arrived on scene around 4:30 Tuesday morning to find a 15 ft. by 15 ft. blaze burning in the middle of the field.
Crews say a mattress and metal frame, along with wooden pallets had been dragged onto the field -- and set on fire.
It's expected to take four weeks to repair the field at Nanaimo and District Secondary School.
Superintendent Scott Saywell says the field will not be usable for team practices in late August.
If you have any information on this incident, contact Nanaimo RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
