An Oak Bay firefighter is recovering after being injured battling a house fire on Beach Drive.
The blaze broke out just after 11 lSunday night.
Oak Bay Fire Dept. Assistant Chief Gord Marshall says flames were shooting out the windows when they arrived.
20 firefighters from Oak Bay, Victoria and Saanich fire departments worked four hours to bring it under control.
"It was a very large building with three floors and very difficult to access because it was on a sheer rock and surrounded by foliage, ' says Oak Bay Fire Dept. Assistant Chief Gord Marshall.
The injured firefighter, in his 30's, was treated for smoke inhalation and released.
Beach Drive was closed for a number of hours overnight from Mountjoy to Falkland.
Heavily damaged by fire 5 years ago, the housewas abandoned. Officials say no one was inside.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
