BC's Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth has announced what regulations will be in place once recreational marijuana becomes legal later this year.
Recreational cannabis will be sold online and through stand alone private and government-operated retail stores. That means it may not be sold in stores where liquor or tobacco products are sold.
As well only those 19 and older may buy it, and they will be limited to 30 grams.
The Province has also decided that the same conditions will apply to smoking pot as to tobacco. That means users will be allowed to smoke in public places, just like ecigarettes and vaping are now. But cannabis may NOT be smoked anywhere children are likely to be -- such as beaches, parks and playgrounds.
Users are also not allowed to smoke pot in vehicles. The limit for growing your own pot has been set at 4 plants per household for adults -- but as expected, landlords will be allowed to prohibit cultivation.
The Province will create a 90-day driving ban for anyone caught driving while drug-impaired. Training will also be increased to help police recognize cannabis impairment.
And finally, a registration process will be established for those applying for a cannabis retail licence, but those licences will not be issued without the support of local governments.
