Family and colleagues of a Victoria police officer who died last spring after spending over 30 years in a coma gathered to witness the installation of his badge and a memorial plaque in the department's Hall of Honour.

Cnst Ian Jordan suffered catastrophic injuries in Sept 1987 when his cruiser was struck by another police cruiser on the way to a break and enter call.

Chief Del Manak says Jordan's same joins 5 others killed in the line of duty:

"We have added Ian's name to a memorial cairn which is situated just outside the main entrance. It's positioned so that everyone that comes to and from our headquarters building  has an opportunity to pause, and remember the 6 fallen officers at VicPd, including Ian."

Jordan's widow and son were on hand to witness the installation, and toured a room named in his honour.  Manak says the room is meaningful, as it is where every new recruit is interviewed.
