It's going to cost the average Canadian family an extra $34 a month just to put food on the table in the coming year.
According to researchers at the University of Guelph and Dalhousie University, food prices will rise between 1.5 to 3.5 per cent in 2019.
The produce section will see the biggest price jump -- between four and six percent for fresh vegetables.
Meanwhile, meat and seafood prices are expected to fall, with the meat category to decline by one to three per cent and seafood costs to remain the same or fall up to two per cent.
The report predicts slight increases for bakery, dairy, fruit, and other food items.
That means the average family of four will spend more than $12,157 next year -- up $411 from 2018.
