August averages 31 death per month about a death a day
The BC Coroners Service is warning drivers that historically August is the deadliest for motor vehicle deaths not involving pedestrians..
Coroner's office spokesman Andy Watson says numbers show traditionally there is about a death a day:
" We average approximately about 31 deaths per month in August, and that's based on aggregate stats looking over a 10 year period. One of the things that we definitely see too is that a lot of the fatalities we investi\gate that involve speed, or alcohol or drug impairment, tend to be in those July and August months as well."
Watson says another factor in fatalities is not wearing seatbelts, something that is more prevalent in men than women.
He advises taking precautions to avoid becoming a statistic. Slow down, and don't drive if you have been drinking or doing drugs, and give yourself more space around other drivers.
