Red, a coonhound, stolen from a car parked at Tillicum Mall several months ago is back home with his owner.
With the help of FLED, (Find Lost & Escaped Dogs Vancouver Island) the dog was recovered after a Duncan resident reported a stray dog in their yard and called a local animal shelter in Duncan.
Once reunited, Red's owner, James Dumont tells CTV Vancouver Island he assumed he would never see his dog again.
"I'm really happy that he's home. It's a pretty miraculous story. I can't believe he made it to Duncan where I'm from. He was stolen from Victoria and he's been missing for six months who knows where he went. He looks to be in petty good shape, I think someone was taking pretty good care of him. He's got a beautiful coat, unless he's been eating a lot of fish.
Authorities say the person responsible has not been tracked down, and Dumont says he doesn't really want to know.
"I don't want to know. It is what it is. I missed six months with him, but we've got a lot of time to go, so I thin we are alright."
Dumont says he is very appreciative of all those involved in the search for Red and says they never gave up on his dog.
