A man charged with barging his way into a home near UVic and sexually assaulting a woman inside has been hit with an additional charge of sexual assault.
Saanich police announced in late January that a man knocked forcefully on a door of the residence, and, when the two women inside opened the door, the man forced his way in and a sexual assault occurred. The women were then escorted under duress by their attacker to a nearby bank machine and ordered to make a withdrawal.
Investigators released surveillance footage of the suspect the next day, and, just over two months later, 43-year old David Robert Hope was arrested in Saskatoon.
He was initially charged with sexual assault, break-and-enter, two counts of robbery, and two counts of forcible confinement, but crown confirmed today another charge of sexual assault has been approved in the case.
Hope, who is being held in custody, appeared briefly in a Victoria courtroom this morning, but a date for his trial has not yet been set.
