The 38th annual GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon goes on Sunday. It's estimated close to 9-thousand people will take part in the 8K, half and full marathon, and the Thrifty Foods Kids Run.
Race spokesman Rob Reid, says the marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifying event and draws a mix of professional athletes and average citizens:
"It's amazing. I mean we've got a guy coming that's a Canadian Olympic race walker. And he's walking the marathon, and he'll finish under 3 hours and 15 minutes. You know, to the people who are raising money for all the charities involved this year ."
The route will take runners from the Fairmont Empress and Legislature through the downtown, into James Bay and Beacon Hill Park, along Dallas Rd to Gonzales Bay, and into Fairfield, Oak Bay and Uplands before the turnaround.
And be aware there will be rolling road closures going on during the event with Dallas Rd closed until 2:15 pm.
