RCMP have arrested a 20 year old man in connection with an alleged animal cruelty case in the Cowichan Valley. They are recommending a charge of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
The case involves video of a drugged cat being abused, shaved and possibly given a "bleach bath". The video was shared on Snapchat with the owner's daughter, who was a former friend of hers.
Cowichan/Duncan RCMP say further charges are being considered against other youth who were involved. Meantime, the cat -- named Gigi - has been found and taken to a vet. Blood tests confirm she was given MDMA. She has a shaved back, but is expected to make a full recovery.
Meantime, RCMP are cautioning against vigilante action, saying when people decide to take law enforcement into their own hands investigations can be jeopardized and key evidence can be lost. RCMP say they appreciate the matter has upset many people, but vigilantism will not be tolerated.
The SPCA is also involved in the investigation.
