West Shore Parks & Recreation has been awarded a $1 million grant toward converting existing facility space at Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre into new licensed child care spaces.
The grant was provided through the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) Community Child Care Space Creation Program.
Geoff Welham, Acting Manager of West Shore Parks & Recreation says the funding will be welcome news for the growing number of West Shore families on waitlists for child care programs in the community.
The project will add 24 new full time licensed day care spaces and 20 new full time preschool spaces for children 30 months to school age to their current childcare offering.
It will increase accessible child care to more than 120 West Shore families each year.
