The towing in of the "Mighty Beast" Friday morning into the Upper Harbour, drew some crowds, and closure of the existing Johnson Street Bridge didn't cause the traffic headaches many motorists had expected.
Saturday, December 9, there will be two JSB closures. The first will be from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m and 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m.
JSB Project Director Jonathan Huggett says weekend work involves installation of the giant rings and the lower counterweight to the bridge structure and the work will be ongoing.
"Work will then go on for the next couple of months while we bolt all the pieces together, we fill the counterweights with lead, to balance them, we align them and then the crane that you see this weekend will return the first week in February and it will lift that very large bridge span that's currently on a barge in the north end of the harbour."
There will also be closures of the Johnson Street Bridge this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are urged to use the Bay Street Bridge.
