Saanich Police say a 56-year-old woman from the West Shore is in critical condition in the hospital after a hit and run incident Saturday night.
It happened at Wilkinson Road at Glen Tara Lane, just south of Interurban at around 10:20 p.m.
Staff Sgt. Chris Horsely says they think the woman, driving a smart car travelling south, was struck from behind by what appears to be a white KIA Optima sedan.
“It appears that perhaps the driver victim actually lost consciousness as the vehicle continued about forty metres on Wilkinson and drove straight into a parked car,” Said Horsley. ““We aren’t sure of the complete circumstances but it’s highly likely that the victim did lose consciousness.”
Officers believe the woman wasn't wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collisions and the vehicle she hit was a parked Jeep Cherokee.
“We don’t believe that the initial contact was significant but we certainly know that whoever was involved would have been aware that they struck another vehicle,” added Horsley, obviously if you are hitting something to such a degree that parts are coming off your car and hitting the roadway you are going to know that you hit something.”
The model and year of the KIA Optima is not known at this time but investigators are working to figure it out.
Police are urging the driver to turn himself or herself in to get the full details.
