West Shore RCMP had an unusual call early this morning after a woman was found unconscious in the middle of a highway.
The person who found her called RCMP about 1 am to report the woman was lying in the middle of Island Highway near Wilfert Rd in View Royal.
Officers recognized that the woman was having a medical emergency -- suffering from an opiate overdose.
A officer administered Narcan nasal spray as they awaited an ambulance. Narcan nasal spray is issued to all RCMP officers, it counteracts the effects of opioids.
Paramedics administered a second dose upon arrival.
The woman regained consciousness and was transported to Hospital for assessment.
RCMP commend the bystander for being a good citizen and calling 911 for help.
