A local Victoria man, Boota Singh, is volunteering in Iraq with international humanitarian group Khalsa Aid Canada.
As part of a week long trip, he will be visiting recently freed villages which were devastated under ISIS control. He is providing essential supplies to refugee camps as well as meeting with the Yazidis recently escaped or freed from ISIS controlled areas.
After his first day in Iraq Singh said 'This has been an eye-opening. Despite the hardships they are facing, the refugees have all been extremely loving and open to us.' Singh spent his first day at the Mojama Nasir Village, where homes were destroyed by ISIS, to help them rebuild.
Khalsa Aid has been in Iraq since 2014 and also has aid missions presently in Haiti, Lebanon, Turkey, India, Bangladesh, and Zambia.
