The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority is getting ready to spend some money to put in a second mooring dolphin to accommodate larger ships that want to come to Victoria.
Harbour Authority CEO Ian Robertson says work is to start late this year or early next year on the $7-million project:
" When the first marine dolphin was installed we were fortunate to receive some assistance from the provincial government. This time around though we are looking for support from the cruise line industry. After all it is because of the arrivals and their ships that we're having to make that infrastructure. And that's quite common around the world where ports are having to invest in infrastructure, that the cruise lines participate in that cost."
The first of the bigger cruise ships will be in Victoria on June 1st next year -- the brand new 330 metre Norwegian Bliss doing- on its inaugural run. The Royal Caribbean's quantum class ship Ovation of the Seas, and Cunard's Queen Elizabeth are expected in 2019.
