In another step toward achieving a "Carbon Neutral" city council, Victoria's Mayor says she, councillors, and staff are going to start paying for the carbon they burn for business travel.
"So whenever a councillor, the Mayor or staff take a trip, when we ask for permission to take a flight, we will need to put a carbon price on that flight, said Helps. "And that money will go into a climate action reserve."
Helps says they'll hash out the idea at council Thursday night. She hopes to have it implemented by Friday.
Currently Metro Vancouver council charges itself $150-dollars per tonne for all carbon emmissions.
