The Victoria Regional Transit Commission says you'll be to track the precise location of your bus from your smart phone within 18 months.
Transit commission chair Susan Brice says they have approved a memorandum of understanding that will allow for real-time technology on all of the buses in the Greater Victoria system.
"That means that we will have real-time information, and that'll allow the customers to determine when buses are due to arrive. They can go on their smart phone, they can check on their pad (and) find out where their bus is, where it's located, when it's going to be arriving."
The federal government will cover the lion's share -- around 50-per cent -- of the start-up costs with funding from its Public Transit Infrastructure Fund. The province will contribute another 33-per cent.
The local share of operating costs and lease fees will be 329-thousand dollars annually for five years, before dropping to 182-thousand dollars a year.
