All residents and pets living in a Victoria apartment building evacuated due to a fire today have been accounted for.
Firefighters responded to the building at Cook and Meares streets at 3:45 this morning for reports of smoke on the second floor of the building, which has a convenience store and dry cleaner on the ground floor.
The cause is still under investigation. The fire department says the fire was difficult to battle because they had to follow it through internal walls.
The roughly two dozen residents of the building have been told they likely won't be able to return for around three days.
