VicPd officers sprung into action to save the life of a man who was choking and overdosing at the same time.
Three officers were in the 900-block of Craigflower Road dealing with an unrelated matter when a woman reported her son was overdosing and choking on a sandwich in a parking lot nearby.
Officers were able to restrain the man while abdominal thrusts were administered to dislodge the food.
Then naloxone was administered to reverse the effects of the overdose.
The man also received rescue breaths with a bag valve mask until he regained consciousness. He was treated by B.C. Emergency Health Services then transported to hospital, and has since been released.
So far in 2018, VicPD officers have administered naloxone 11 times to people that were overdosing.
