A Victoria police officer suffered non-life threatening injuries when this vehicle was struck by an impaired driver early Tuesday morning.
Just before 3am police and emergency services were called to the intersection of Cook Street and Dallas Road for a collision between a police van and a car.
Upon arriving they discovered the officer and the occupants of the car suffering from non-life-threatening injuries. Early investigation suggests the driver of the car failed to stop at a stop sign striking the van.
The officer was taken to hospital for treatment, while the driver and passenger declined transport and were treated at the scene. As investigating officers noticed the driver showed signs of alcohol consumption they requested a breath sample, and the driver blew well over the limit.
Chief Del Manak says the same patrol shift not only had to deal with the injury of one of their own, they also responded to a fatal collision between a motorcycle and a car further up Cook Street hours before.
