Be careful crossing the street.
VicPd has begun to crack down this week on unruly pedestrians - handing out 100 warnings Wednesday alone. VicPd says on average, 10 pedestrians are killed in crosswalks on Vancouver Island every year.
Sargent Shannon Perkins explains: "A lot of people believe they can enter a crosswalk on a red hand signal as long as there is a countdown. In reality - the only time you can enter a crosswalk is when there is a white walk signal."
VicPd warn they will move from education to enforcement if they don't see an improvement. Those pedestrians who don't curb bad behavior could be fined up to $121 dollars.
