The life and service of a VicPd officer who died last week after spending over three decades in a coma was honoured with a full police funeral.
Flags flew at half staff, hundreds of law enforcement officers from Canada and the U.S. attended, and Jordan's casket was carried into the church draped in a Canadian flag. His police cap and holster were placed on top.
Constable Jordan's son Mark was just a baby when his father was injured. During his eulogy he thanked Vic Pd for all their support over the years. Jordan said seeing so many family, friends, and work colleagues in the church was a reflection of how his father lived his life, and what type of man he was, something he aspires to himself.
The young man also thanked his mother for her strength:
"Loving admiration is given to my mother for the unconditional love and dedication she gave to my father over the past 30 years. It without a doubt kept him in good spirits and was a comfort to him."
" I also want to take the opportunity to thank my mother for the love and support she has given me. You gave me an amazing life, where I did not feel that I missed out being raised by a single parent. I admire your strength and sincerely hope that you know how much I love and appreciate you."
Chief Constable Del Manak addressed Jordan's widow and son:
"Hilary and Mark, there are so many here today that served with Ian, and many of them counted him amongst their closest friends. Many colleagues use the phrase "friend for life" when describing Ian."
Manak relayed what new recruits are told about the kind of officer Cnst. Jordan was:
" How Ian had received a minor injury in a scuffle outside a bar and was being sent home to recover. How, when Ian heard the call the call on the radio about a break and enter in progress he responded anyway. How, in a tragic turn of events he was involved in a collision with another police cruiser when responding to that call."
The last post was played, and Chief Manak'sa voice announced over the police radio "Cnst. Ian Douglas Jordan, 10/7. End of watch. April 11th, 2018."
