A string of credit card frauds in Victoria have cost local businesses thousands of dollars.
Victoria Police Department's Crime Reduction Unit is investigating several frauds across the city, where transactions are conducted through manual entry of stolen or fraudulent credit card numbers.
The numbers were entered in the Point of Sale, or POS, terminal, and have ended up costing local businesses over $50,000 in combined losses.
Investigators are asking businesses to monitor the use of POS terminals, and make sure customers are only using the machines to tap or enter their personal identification number, and not accessing any administative menus or entering the credit card numbers. If someone does manually enter a card's number, it will print the word 'manual' on the receipt.
If you see someone trying to use this method, please call the Vic PD at 250-995-7654, your local police department, or Greater Victoria Crime stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
