The Greater Victoria School Board is starting to undergo consultation process to upgrading Victoria High School.
Due to Vic High being a 'high' risk school in the event of an earthquake, the district has been granted money to look at possible renovations. The current building can only accomodate 850 students, which leaves approximately 300 students in the catchment area unaccomodated, according to Piet Langstraat, superintendent of School District 61.
The School Board Vice-Chair, Tom Ferris, says the options they are currently looking at for the school are a renovation on the current building, keeping the facade of the old building but building a new school within it, or building a new school entirely.
The plans for a new school include increasing the capacity to 1,000 students.
The budget for the three projects ranges from 50-million to 110-million dollars.
The school district will be holding open houses on April 7, and April 18, as well as having an online survey available throughout April.
