Some southern Vancouver Island School districts are second guessing school trips into the United States.
Growing concern that students born abroad could face discrimination in the wake of President Donald Trump's travel ban -- which has already seen Canadians denied entry following questioning about their faith and views on President Trump, has prompted some Vancouver Island school boards to double check with U.S. Border security.
Sooke Superintendent Jim Cambridge says there are two main concerns. "one is a safety issue, the other is an ethical decision. If only some of our students are going to be allowed into the U.S. we have to decide if we will allow an entire class or an entire trip to go."
Cambridge says he's hopeful they get the information they need before the next board meeting -- Victoria School District hopes to have advice for their staff and parents next week. Saanich says all their trips are a "GO", but parents and teachers are being given the option to drop out of trips if they don't feel comfortable.
