Vancouver Island Maritime workers rallied in Victoria today, worried their jobs could be in jeopardy.
Longshoremen Ferry workers and tug boat operators gathered at Ogden Point this morning protesting international trade deals and proposed deregulation they worry as many as 12,000 thousand Canadian maritime jobs could be replaced with foreign workers. The union says Canadians are best qualified to navigate through Canadian waters. Rob Ashton, with the I.L.W.U. says jobs would be replaced in every sector.
"We want all of Canada to stand up and say it ain't (sic) happening here. We want our jobs protected fro Canadians."
Protests were also held today in Vancouver; Prince Rupert as well as Montreal and Toronto.
