Port Renfrew and the Pacheedaht First Nation will be better able to respond to tsunami warnings and provide earthquake early warnings after receiving a $550,000 dollar contribution from the BC Disaster Mitigation Program to the Capital Regional District.
The funds will replace the now obsolete tsunami sirens with new warning technology.
The upgrades will include voiceover capability and remote activation, expanding the audible warning zone to include the Pacheedaht First Nation community.
The proposed system has the potential to provide early warning prior to an earthquake actually occurring.
