The lawyer for a man convicted of sexually assaulting two UVic International students is asking the court to impose a sentence of 4 to 5 years. Meantime the Crown is looking for a sentence of 7 to 10 years.
David Hope was found guilty last month of forcing his way into the womens' ground floor apartment on Church Avenue, sexually assaulting them, and taking the to a bank to get him cash.
The 44 year old was convicted on charges of sexual assault, unlawful confinement, robbery and Break and Enter in the January 2016 crime.
He was identified after police released a photo captured on video surveillance.
The court has been told Hope a lengthy criminal record -- with 44 prior convictions, including four for previous assaults and for four counts of indecent assault.
Victim impact statements from the 2 women were read to court. The victims relayed that following their experience they no longer feel safe in Victoria, and want to leave.
Hope will be sentenced on Friday March 16.
