Two Victoria police officers were taken to hospital, and 1 man was arrested, following a blaze at townhouse complex. The fire broke out just before 4 a.m. at the Blanshard Court complex in the 25-hundred block of Blanshard Street.
VicPD patrol officers were called for a report of a dispute in the complex, and when they got there they found the interior of the suite was on fire, with several residents still inside.
Officers got all residents to safety, and tried to put out the fire, but it was too involved. With the fire quickly spreading to neighboring suites, VicPd helped evacuate surrounding units.
One man was taken into custody at the scene. Two officers were taken to hospital as a precaution for smoke inhalation.
The damage to the complex appears to be extensive, and the majority of residents have been relocated. VicPD's Major Crime Unit, and Forensic Identification Section, are involved in the investigation.
A news release says the public is not at risk, and there is no information to indicate this fire is related to any other fires in the Victoria area, including the old Plaza Hotel.
Meantime, VicPd say they have had no new leads into the whereabouts of the Plaza Hotel caretaker, MIke Draeger, since ther building burned doiwn on May 6th.
