It's the start of Pride Week in Victoria, and a local archive has been named one of the top LGBTQ museums in the world by the international travel website, Fodor’s.
The University of Victoria Transgender Archives has been ranked 7th on a list that included similar collections in Australia, Berlin, the Netherlands and L.A.
Dr. Aaron Devor is the founding director of U-Vic's Transgender Archives and tells us the Transgender Archives have materials from 18 countries on 5 continents in 10 languages.
"So we are preserving transgender history, or the original documents from which historians write transgender history from many places around the world. It's important to preserve this because very little of the history of transgender has yet been written, and so these are the materials that historians use to write history."
Devor points out the archives at U-Vic are the only trans-specific collection on the list, and is the largest such collection in the world.
