The first legal pot shop in Victoria is "Tree's Dispensary" on Yates street.
Victoria council approved the rezoning application at Thursday's council meeting.
Mayor Lisa Helps says there were no objections to the application.
"This was the first public hearing, very surprised no opposition. Only two people spoke and they were in favour of it and we have had no complaints about that location, they did a very good job."
The move means Trees Dispensary is now the first cannabis retailer to be zoned under the city’s new rules.
Adam Carmichael, manager for Trees Dispensary says he is happy with the decision and with the work of his staff.
"It feels great everyone's breathing a big sigh of relief there's a lot of high fives going around I just want to give a shout out to Tree's I think they did a fantastic job and city council recognized that."
Trees were the first dispensary to have their rezoning application go through the public hearing process but more are scheduled.
