A bid to get "traffic calming" measures on roads through the Lagoon neighbourhood in Colwood didn't get the necessary support from residents.
After complaints of speeding, and pedestrians being put at risk, the city was asked to find ways to slow motorists down. Proposals included adding speed bumps, and possibly closing off Hatley Drive at Passage Way.
A city policy requires at least 50% of the surveys must be returned -- and of those at least 75% must be in favour to enact the measures. But in this case, neither threshold was met.
Only 42% of surveys came back, and the approval rating for each proposed measure was below the required amount.
Residents did express an interest in having sidewalks and traffic lights -- which are planned once 262 housing units have been built. Adding speed zones has been suggested, and finding ways to encourage motorists to use other routes.
Some residents asked for increased traffic enforcement, and while the city has requested that, West Shore RCMP indicate they have many competing interests at demanding officers' time.
The City suggests citizens request an RCMP Community Speed Watch for their neighbourhood by calling 250-474-2264.
