The Ryder Hesjedal Tour de Victoria runs today, and a number of local roads will be closed to accommodate the 13-hundred cyclists expected to take part.
Event director Seamus McGrath says it's the seventh running of their annual ride.
"Some people might think it's an actual road race. It's not at all. It's a car-free, dedicated lane with traffic control at all the intersections so you can have basically the road to yourself just like you'd get in the Tour de France. And then a festival atmosphere at the finish line."
There are four different routes, including a 45 kilometer ride that runs from Sidney down the peninsula, through Saanich and Oak Bay, and into Victoria. The full 140 kilometre route starts at the Legislature and takes riders into the West Shore, though Highlands and Central Saanich, and then loops around Saanich and Oak Bay and along Dallas Road before finishing back at the Legislature grounds.
You can see the full routes and the roads impacted on the Tour de Victoria website.
