A report going to Victoria City Councilors says the funding timeline for the Crystal Pool replacement project is now "at risk."
The specific problem is a delay with a federal-provincial grant program. The city is trying to pull together all the funding for the project by March of next year in order to qualify for gas tax funding.
However, a hoped for "Investing in Canada Social Infrastructure grant" won't be accepting applications until later than anticipated, which could mean they won't find out if they get the money in time.
The city is hoping to use these kinds of grants to avoid borrowing for the Crystal Poll replacement - and avoid any kind of voter approval process.
The staff report warns that delays in the project could cause cost escalations of $300,000-$500,000 per month.
