There wasn't a lot in the throne speech specifically for Vancouver Island, despite a Liberal campaign promise to pay more attention to island issues.
Mona Brash, instructor of political science at Camosun College, says there was a mention of work to be done on Light Rapid Rail:
"Undertake feasibility studies, so lots for the lower mainland of course. And then looking at the potential for light rail transit on south island and a passenger ferry connection between Nanaimo and Vancouver. She said this won't happen overnight but, you know, they have to map out our future."
Light Rapid Rail is vastly differently from re-opening the E & N rail corridor, a project that has long been advocated for. It may be the Liberals used the wrong terminology, or perhaps they are floating a different project to ease traffic.
In any case, Brash finds it interesting there wasn't a lot about Vancouver Island given the attention the Liberals paid to ridings here during the campaign.
