The Royal BC Museum has received a massive donation of 18,000 fossils.
The fossils, which date back to the Eocene era (56 million years ago) were found in the McAbee Heritage site, near Kamloops.
They were donated to the museum from the collection of the late John Leahy.
Minister of Agriculture, Lana Popham said "It really gives us the opportunity to educate people of British Columbia about the importance of our natural history."
She also used the announcement to launch the contest to choose an official fossil for BC. There are 7 fossils to choose from, and the voting page can be accessed through the link below.
We already have an official flower (Pacific Dogwood), gem (jade), bird (Stellar’s Jay), tree (Western Red Cedar), mammal (Spirit Bear), and fish (Pacific Salmon)
The contest runs until November, then BC will have an official fossil emblem.
