Residents of a James Bay apartment are still being temporarily housed in a downtown hotel after asbestos was found during recent apartment renovations.
Danny Roth is a spokesman for Devon Properties and Starlight Group Property Holdings reveals the number of people being housed.
"There are 73 total units in the building. At the time of notice when we made the decision to vacate, there were 59 units
occupied. So all 59 tenants as of Sunday at noon have relocated and the company has provided accommodation free of charge for all our residents. We've also provided a $100 grocery credit per week, we've provided a $100 pre-paid credit card to help with food expenses, we've provided shuttle services throughout the week and to move people from the apartment to the hotel. We are looking after parking, etc., etc."
Roth estimates the tenants will remain out of their residences for about two weeks in total. He says samples need to be tested and results need to be analyzed to determine the best course of action.
